Michael Cuddyer just signed with the Mets for $21 million over two years. Baseball twitter, as it is occasionally wont to do, pretty much roflcoptered all over itself. Yeah the Mets gave up a 15th overall pick. Yeah Cuddyer isn’t a great everyday outfielder, but everyone keeps saying MLB teams are swimming in money, right? So if you have money to blow, and you want to add Cuddyer at a pretty small price, maybe it makes sense to pay more than what he deserves to get based on his output. If you pay $7 for a bottle of water, you’re overpaying, but maybe you’re loaded and thirsty. Sometimes I feel like we baseball nerds are a little too quick to point out how stupid everyone else is.
